Below you may find a summary of all new content we've published on SilverlightShow throughout the week August 13 - 19, 2012:

New SilverlightShow Series: 'Connecting Windows 8 applications with services'

The new week at SilverlightShow started with a new Windows 8 article series in which one of our most appreciated authors Gill Cleeren will be discussing the options you have to connect your Windows 8 apps to services.

You can find the first part from the series here:

In this article, Gill is exploring the principles of accessing data over services in Windows 8 apps. We are going to apply this knowledge by accessing ASMX and WCF Services from a Windows 8 application.

Read the Last Part of Gill Cleeren's 'Windows 8 & the Future of XAML' Article Series

In the beginning of this year, Gill Cleeren started a series of articles discussing Windows 8 and the future of XAML. This week we published the 7th (and last) part of this series:

In this last article, Gill takes a look at the options you have to manage how your application behaves in combination with the new application lifecycle management. He takes a look at executing code in the background as well.

Now that this series is finished, we'll soon convert and release it as an ebook (PDF, Word, MOBI & EPUB formats + source code). Stay tuned!

Watch Recording of Recent Webinar 'Windows 8 Metro apps and the outside world'

On August 16th, SilverlightShow had the honor to host another great webinar by Gill Cleeren - Windows 8 Metro apps and the outside world. Those of you who didn't make it to the live session can now watch the recorded presentation online:

In this session, Gill explores how WinRT apps can connect with services (WCF, REST...) and the cloud to offer a great experience. He also discusses how internals like roaming data can be used in your apps.

Our next webinarWindows 8 Metro Questions and Answers - is scheduled for September 19th. In a total of 60-70 minutes, Gill Cleeren will answer the top Windows 8 Metro questions (approx 10-15, depending on broadness of questions) asked by the webinar attendees.

NOTE: Questions may be submitted via the webinar registration form until August 22nd. The final list of questions to be covered will be announced until August 31st.
