In the article of Nikhil Kothari – “Silverlight.FX Effects in Depth you can see the basic declarative use of out-of-the-box features and learn how to write your own effect-enabled Silverlight controls and your own custom effects.

A few months ago Joel Neubeck created a very simple version of a Silverlight Rating control. And now inspired by the new Silverlight Toolkit he did some changes to make his RatingControl use the “ImplicitStyleManager”.

Joseph Ghassan wrote the article “Silverlight 2.0 Isolated Storage”. He examines the Isolated Storage and explains how to use it.

Shawn Wildermuth updated his Silverlight 2-ADO.NET Data Services example. In the new sample he shows how to create a Line-of-Business application (an XBox Game editor) using ADO.NET Data Services against both an Entity Framework model and NHibernate. Shawn also wrote three new articles – in the first one he explains why domain specific languages are important to everyday developers. In the second one he shares his attempt to replicate the store model of his VideoGameStore data using MSchema language. And in the last one (“Controlling Service References in Silverlight 2”) he tries to answer the question: ” Is there a right way to handle web service endpoints in Silverlight 2 when dealing with development and deployment servers?”.

Shawn Burke has collected a great variety of Silverlight Toolkit Resources. As he says, this is a real “link storm”.

A new open source project called Silverlight loader on CodePlex is now available. The project is basically a simple and light framework aimed at taking the pain out of writing splash screens, pre-loaders and loaders.
